There appeared large numbers of porcelain-making sites around Jiu Long Jiang estuary in Fujian during Song and Yuan Dynasties. Unfortunately, this region has not been so far identified as one in which its industries were relatively developed in an independent way. The present paper focuses on its relatively cultural independence in this region by looking back on its cultural history, expounds its archaeological work and porcelain-making and early shipping industries. On the other hand, the paper studies its technologies of porcelain-making, pottery-glaze-making as well as utensil patterns based on the extensive investigation and archaeological excavation around Jiu Long Jiang estuary, makes division of its utensils into different historical periods and deduction of its different dates by the application of archaeological typology, and at the same time, approaches the connotation of its porcelain-making sites. Furthermore, the paper also probes into the technological resources of porcelain-making industry in the area through the review of its technology during Sui and Tang Dynasties and the comparison of different famous porcelain-making families in the same periods of time so as to highlight its relative independence. With the data found abroad as well as the information provided in excavation of ancient sunk ships the author finally analyzes how its porcelain was exported during Song and Yuan Dynasties and discusses the regional early shipping before the rise of Yue Harbor.
