Motive, it is a famous concept in Western composition. Some theorists has been researched it in theory since 18th century. The technologies and ideas of motive had been perfectly in the 19th century. The instrumental music of Vienna classicism is sampled by the author of this thesis to carry out some researching, because it is an important represent of motive using.This thesis is made up of four chapters, all of which can be summed up as "definition", "three features", "three instructions".The first chapter content is the definition of motive, which is the main controversy point because of the theory of motive researching dose not systematize yet. So, for the purpose to given a more clear definition for motive, the first chapter of this thesis combed a series of definition which picked up from some books, thesis and dictionaries, then, discussed some controversy point in this definition.The second chapter is discussing about the three features of motive, which is beat features, rhythmic features and interval features. For this contents research, the author used some music analysis technologies and ideas of 20th century to prove the function of motive three features in 19th Vienna classicism instrumental music.The Model of motive movement is the other main content of this thesis. The author used two chapters to talk about this question. For conclude the model of motive movement in music working , this thesis pick up three instructions from sonata form, which is the first theme, the bridge and development as the three environments of motive movement.
