In the 1950s, there was a new phenomenon that the local drama tradition goes side-by-side with absurd theater as well as blends with the latter on British drama stage. Pinter's early works are the best display of drama creation of this very period. It initiates a new theatricality that has great effects on contemporary British drama.On the basis of influence research and text interpretation, the thesis starts with the ascription issue of absurd theater in Pinter's early works, to get a detail interpretation with the development of British theater in 1950s. The study mainly explores the demonstration of the plays' histrionics, scenarios, as well as moral poetry in terms of three aspects, namely, linguistic features, stage settings, literary value of image-building. Besides, it also touches upon the reasons that come into being the elements above. By regressing to the original texts, the thesis finds that Pinter's early works are not only strike by modernists in form and thought, but also succeed to the writing style of theater creation traditions in content. Taking original texts as foundations, the research tries to deoxidize writer's producing facts and works' value in literature history on the vexed theatricality ascription issue.
