Development Of Dynamic Montague Grammar For Tipical Donkey Sentence Processing

The donkey anaphora has developed into a hot issue in the field of semantics in the west, involves to language characters such as dealing with the quantifier, indefinite noun, anaphoric pronoun, and logic problem such as quantization, restraint, scope and so on .This paper attempts under the paradigm of dynamic Montague grammar (DMG) , giving new solving out a scheme about the problem appearing to Tipical donkey sentences.The 1st chapter introduces donkey anaphora in the field of semantics, discussing what is donkey sentences and the logical grammar problem embodying in Tipical donkey sentences, introducing Montague grammar (MG), and have brought forward its semantic difficult problem in donkey sentences.Since the development of alternatives, such as discourse representation theory (DRT) in chapter 2, clearly has been solved by limitations and shortcomings of MG. The question naturally feature of discourse semantics appears insufficient when carrying out a man-machine conversation.So in chapter 3, a system of dynamic predicate logic (DPL) was developed, as a compositional alternative for classical DRT. DPL shares with DRT the restriction of being a first-order system. In chapter 4 of this paper, we are mainly concerned with overcoming this limitation which the first-order system. We shall propose to use this new logical system as the semantic component of a Montague-style grammar (referred to as dynamic Montague grammar, DMG), which will enable us to extend the compositionality of DPL to the subsentential level. Because DMG is take MG as the rationale, quotes DRT the dynamic thought that to extend with the Compositionality principle, with the aid of the DPL logical tool, establishes the new logical system above the Dynamic Intensional Logic (DIL) foundation. Compares with DRT has certain superiority, can therefore realize to the donkey clause processing development. The donkey anaphora is also in our modern Chinese a very important language phenomenon, and it compares Chinese donkey anaphora with English donkey anaphora and shows that they are strikingly similar.Therefore DMG also has the important theory value and the practical significance to our Chinese donkey clause's research. In the 5th chapter, this paper is a revisit to donkey sentences in English and Chinese. It first reviews the approaches to the treatment of Chinese donkey sentences and then proposes a unified account of them, and giving myself viewpoint to the treatment of Chinese donkey sentences.
