On The Training Values Of Vocal Musical Art Works Of Handel

Bel Canto, the art and science of singing which originated in Italy during the late 17th century, reached its pinnacle by the end of Baroque epoch in Europe. During this period, the great amount of art productions created and the techniques of singing which were widely spread through travelling artists, popularized this fine art form and the numourous master pieces of Bel Canto. This also helped to construct an almost complete aesthetic system of Bel Canto. Handel, one of the most talented composors of the Baroque epoch, created a nearly unsurpassable quantity and quality of master pieces; specially, his operas and cantatas are remarkable for their grande structure, the acute creativity and the keenly expressive art form. He was praised as "the constructive pillar of vocal art" by the famous Chinese descendant vocal artist and professor Meibo Zhao. Handel's works are widely known for their fine art forms, noble themes, rich and sensual emotions, also with the elegant postures and magnificent structures. His works accelerated the evolvement of Bel Canto and raised it up towards perfection.This master thesis's work, based on the analysis of the lyrics, melodies, rhythms, strength and other characters of Handel's works, concludes that while suiting the nature of human voices, his works follow the basic soft and natural vocal principles of Bel Canto. Then based on our research on Handel's originate scores, we propose that his vocal music works are not only the classics in vocal art history, but also valuable practice cases for vocal art study. Their influences deeply resides in regulating the authentic Bel Canto styles and skills for singers, and also in the long scheme study of vocal art.
