As an important component of Chinese fine culture, Chinese Painting has undergone the transformation of thousands of years, which shapes its unique thinking model and language pattern. Sharp characteristics of nationality have especially stood out in the confrontation between color and ink in Chinese Painting. Looking back at the modern history of China, Chinese nation had suffered hell on earth which was brought about by the western powers. Thus national inferiority complex has come into being gradually and it is generally believed that foreign knowledge is superior. Ever since a long time ago, it has been western trichromatism, perspective theory and anatomy that dominate the art field whereas we have little knowledge of our traditional Chinese chromatology, even ignorant of it. Sometimes, people measure Chinese Painting according to the criteria of"science"or"not-science", considering the color of Chinese Painting weak. Color, the major composing part in traditional drawing, provides the foundation for new art. As the practitioner of Chinese Painting, it is necessary to trace root of Chinese Painting's color. This paper will analyze the history of Chinese color and color's pattern; as well, this paper will present the philosophical and social factors. The development trend of Chinese drawing will be shown in the comparison of Chinese and foreign color studies. The reasonability and uniqueness show the nationality of Chinese color, which proves only national could be international.
