LiDai MingHua Ji and The Lives of the Most Eminent Architects, Painters, and Sculptors, which have been researched for generations, are two of the most influential works in the art history of China and the West. However, there is no treatise to put them together to make a systematic comparation. Although art has no definite definition, it seems to have its regularity for us to seek. From the angles of the writing intention of the author, the origin of the art, the division of the artistic periods and the evalution standard, this thesis chooses their common grounds and differences, their cultural backgrounds to discuss their interpretations of the art, artists and artistic evolution.
