The Aesthetic Standard And The Cosmetology And Dressing Of Shanghai Female In The Republic Of China(1927-1937)

The development of the society promotes the change of the aesthetic standard, the new aesthetic standard guides the change of the cosmetology and dressing, and the change of the cosmetology and dressing affects the development of the society in turn. To a certain extent, the influence of cosmetology and dressing reflects the impact of the aesthetic standard over the society. Therefore, through the angles of the aesthetic standard and the cosmetology and dressing, we can get a glimpse of the vicissitude of the society of China at transitional period.During 1927-1937, under the combined effect of various factors including the influence of western world up on China, the inducement of commercial activities, the limited promotion of the Nanjing National Government, the demonstration of the "modern" females and the guidance of the public opinions and so on, the aesthetic standard of Chinese had changed obviously. Healthy and natural, fashionable and sexual, brief and beautiful had become the new standard for people to judge what beauty is for the metropolis females. In this process, there are both the collision between new and old ideas of people and the gradual awakening of consciousness of female as aesthetic main body.Cosmetology and dressing is an important reflection of female's beauty, and the metropolis female are the current representatives of fashion and tide in female community, thus, the metropolis female have the natural superiority and convenience in the aspect of cosmetology and decoration. This article selects Shanghai, an international metropolis, to analyze the changes of the Shanghai female in cosmetology and dressing under the direction of the new aesthetic standard in 1927-1937. Through the analysis, we have discovered that, during 1927-1937, the cosmetology and dressing of Shanghai female took on many characteristics, including pluralistic, fashionable, innovative, eyeless and discrepant and so on. And the changes of the Shanghai female in cosmetology and dressing have had certain influences on the social economy, social life and social concepts.
