Base upon the investigation of the folk story-teller Liu Defang in Yiling community, Yichang counter, Hubei province, by comparing with chorographic and collected materials, this dissertation inspects the process of Liu Defang's being found and nominated and launched to further explore and probes into the program of how effective to protect folk story transmitter by comparing demonstrates in the background of the safeguard of the intangible cultural heritage.It consists of six chapters, with epilogue at the end. Chapter one , the preface sketches out the history and current situation of Chinese folklore transmission studies in the 20th century. With a critical examination towards the research trends, I attempt to find a new perspective pivoting of modern folklore bearer study. Chapter two, a survey of Xiabaoping community. It describes the spatial surroundings such as natural environment and geographic location. It also looks into the Xiabaoping community's history. Chapter three, a description of folklore bearers'life. It describes the process of Liu Defang's being found and nominated and launched to further explore. Chapter four, a contrast of fore-and-aft narrating activities .It compares the changes about Liu Defang's narrating activities during the process of entry the city and the differences between the "traditional" Liu and the "modern" Liu. Chapter five, a description of the scheme that how to protect Liu Defang. It collects and comments on the viewpoints ofYiling community' leadership, rural cadres and villager. Chapter six, a production to other folklore bearers. It compare the productive scheme to Liu Defang and to others. The epilogue concludes the protective program through summarizing the foregoing sections.
