During the middle period of the 19th century, a large number of Koreans began to move into the northeast of China, where formed a Korean immigration community. At present, the researchers mainly focus on the research of Yanbian area where the Korean immigrants lived together. But the research on the Korean immigration community in the scattered areas is not very systematic or thorough. The author believes that it is only by the profoundly probing into the characteristics of the scattered Korean immigration community in the respect of the north bank of the Yalu River, as well as the comparative study of Korean immigration community in Yanbian that will bring us a comprehensive understanding to the characteristics of the Chinese Korean.The thesis is composed of three parts: the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. The introduction mainly explains the purpose and significance of this paper and reviews the current situation of research regarding the history of Koreans who immigrated to the Northeast of China. The author also makes a brief introduction of the subject's scope and the material utilization.The first chapter of the main body analyzes the situation that a large number of Koreans moved and settled down in the north bank of Yalu River in the period of the late Qing Dynasty. First of all, the thesis discusses the traces that the Koreans moved into the north bank of Yalu River in the period of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. Secondly, the thesis analyzes the reason why the Koreans moved into the north bank of Yalu River, which was earlier than they settled down in the north bank of Tumen River during the mid-19th century. Thirdly, it also describes that the forming process of Korean villages and the characteristics of the social structure in the north bank of Yalu River. The second chapter elaborates the different immigration policies of Qing Dynasty, Korea, Japan towards Korean immigrants and the impacts of these policies on the Korean immigration community. The third chapter analyzes the situations of the Korean immigration community in respects of economy, interethnic relations and culture.The conclusion of this thesis summarizes the characteristics of the Korean immigration community in the north bank of Yalu River. Firstly, the Korean immigrants in the north bank of Yalu River showed a scattered and mixed characteristics. Secondly, the emigrant places of the Korean immigrants in the north bank of Yalu River appeared more complex, and generally retained the inherent characteristics of the emigrant places. Thirdly, the Korean immigrants in north bank of Yalu River were not the main body of the Qing Dynasty's immigration policy. Compared with the north bank of Tumen River, the Korean immigrants in the bank of Yalu River owed less land, which made them relocate more frequently.
