The detective fiction, as an important literary form, has drawn less attention than it should. There has been relatively little research on the detective fiction that has been brought to light in published form. But during the reading process, the fact that the reader follows the words on the page in order to work out who the murderer is with his or her own intelligence is no less than a true adventure. And it is this adventure that attracts the reader's attention and interest.Although studies on literary texts have now become well developed, linguistic techniques are more readily adapted to the miniature interpretation of a short text, such as a lyric poem, than to the examination of a full-scale novel. However, cognitive stylistics, which involves the application of theories of cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology to literary texts, offers a new perspective to literary reading. The present researcher endeavors to analyze one of the detective novels by Agatha Christie - Evil Under the Sun - by employing the framework of Contextual Frame Theory. Efforts are made to reveal how the reader perceives the coherence of the text in this cognitive stylistic framework.
