In this essay, the author mainly focuses on the prepositions used in the area just outside Pingjiang county gate which is the representative place of Pingjiang dialect. The author classifies the prepositions , makes description and compares the prepositions used in Pingjiang with those of some parts of Xiang dialect and Gan dialect and presents a preliminary analysis.In this essay, by using grammatical meaning as the outline,the author makes classifications and makes descripti--on of the prepositions used in Pingjiang. By summarizing the ideas of virtuous people of previous time and modern age,we divide the prepositions used in Pingjiang into six kinds.They are Zhushi prepositions , Keshi prepositions ,Yu shi prepositions , Pingshi prepositions, Yinshi prepositions, Jingshi prepositions.One of the important characteristics of the prepositions used in Pingjiang is that, commonly speaking, the prepositions which have similar meaning have some kind of pragmatic difference. There are three groups of similar prepositions which are used in different tense. And what'smore, we compare the prepositions used in Pingjiang with those of some parts of Xiang dialect and Gan dialect and present a preliminary analysis. Through comparison, the characteristics of the prepositions used in Pingjiang become more visible. We draw such a conclusion that there are much difference between the prepositions used in Pingjiang and those used in Changning,Nanchang ,Suining and Longhui which is far away from Pingjiang and that there are many similarities between the prepositions used in Pingjiang and those use in Changsha and Yiyang which are not far from Pingjiang. With the development of society, frequent languitistic contact, there will be more similarities between Pingjiang dialect and Changsha and Yiyang dialect especially Changsha dialect.
