The Comparison Of The Gaoping Dialect And Baixi Dialect

Gao Ping is a small town of Long Hui county, Hu Nan province, and Bai Xi is a small town of Xin Hua county, Hu Nan province.The distance between these two towns is very remote indeed, but the people of these two towns can communicate with each other in their own dialects without any difficulties. About one and half centuries ago, the ancester of today' s people in Gao Ping which were surnamed Liu moved to Gao Ping from Bai Xi. This paper compares Gao Ping dialect with Bai Xi dialect basing on the detailed description of these two dialects. We can find some common characteristics labeled by the historical relationship of these two dialects from the description, and we can find some differences as well. This paper not only demonstrates the historical relationship of these two dialects, but also provides a theoretical basis for the communication of the people from these two towns.
