During 1960s and 1970s,moral panic appeared in western society,as the social influence of meida continuously broadened. In 1970s,the earlist moral panic study initiated in the field of British sociology and gradually became an independent branch of it.This paper intends to generalize and clarify the engendering,development and influence of moral panic study,especially seeking to point out the role of the meida played in moral panics. This paper basically outlines four parts.The first part represents the foundation and achievement of early moral panic studies.The second part trys to explain how we should understand what moral panic is and how can we study it.we will conclude that a moral panic has three dimnsions.It involves an identifiable process of definition and action. It markes the moral boundaries of society.It is also a set of dicourses of various kinds and levels.The third part is about the media,we will do a specific analysis of the role which the meida alays in moral panic,because the media is always the center of moral panics.The last part,we will talk about the meida's responsibility. after all,the aim we doing research and the the study is to make the world better than before.So,there is a lot of revisions every part of the society should do,such as the meida.
