Objective:The aim of the present study was to develop a Chinese version of the Aspiration Index and evaluate its reliability and validity.Method:The English version of the Aspiration Index was translated and back- translated prior to its administration to 888 participants recruited from a university of Hunan province. The participants include freshmen, sophomore and junior students, the averaged age was 20.41±1.32 years old. One month later, the Aspiration Index was randomly readministered to subset(n=107)of the original group.Cronbach's alpha coefficient, mean inter-item correlation coefficient and test-retest reliability were analyzed for the reliability of the Aspiration Index. The construct validity and concurrent validity of the Aspiration Index were also examined in this study. Results 1.Internal consistency:Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total scale was 0.94,Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the eleven subscales ranged from 0.52 to 0.82,the mean inter-item correlation coefficient of the nine subscale ranged from 0.22 to 0.49;Test-retest reliability:the test-retest reliability of the total scale was 0.71,the test-retest reliability of eleven subscales ranged from 0.46 to 0.80.Concurrent validity:the results of bivariate Pearson correlation and partial correlation showed that the Aspiration Index had varying relationship with SES and CES_D.4. CoGFIrmatory factor analysis shown that the following five indices met the psychometrics standard:①x~2/df=4.556,②CFI=0.973,③IFI=0.973,④TLI=0.969,⑤GFI=0.965,⑥RMSEA=0.063。Conclusion:The properties of The Chinese version of Aspiration Index is a reliable and valid assessment of well-being index.
