Eileen Chang and Hualing Nie are both important writers in 20^th century. They share quite similar experience, but the differences in areas where they lived, the family surroundings and their own characters make the difference in their works. This thesis focuses on these differences in the work they wrote after leaving China, especially in America. The thesis is basised on comparative literature. There are four aspects: mother tongue writing, looking back the motherland and the images of women. In America, they both chose to write in Chinese. For Eileen Chang, she had to, while it was just an pursuit for NieAlthough they were in America, they wrote stories mostly about China. By describing daily life in Shanghai and Hong kong during 1930s to 1950s , Eileen Chang just wanted to seek the garden for her spirit. For Nie Hualing who had experienced the roil in mainland , the high pressure politics in Taiwan. After leaving China , she had the chance to express herself. They both found solution for spirit.The memory also decides the women images in their work.
