The present study, based on two different theoretical frames of verb-centered view and construction-centered view, by absorbing the linguistic constraint of affordance, selects Chinese EFL learners as subjects and takes a cross-sectional approach to probe into the dynamic role of construction and affordance in the comprehension of English denominal verb sentence. The result demonstrated that with the improvement of language proficiency, L2 learners comprehended the sentence by transiting from depending on verb to depending on construction; Affordance could help learners of low proficiency to comprehend the denominal verb sentence; furthermore, affordance could better facilitate the comprehension of English denominal verb sentence by learners of intermediate and advanced who relied on construction during sentence comprehension than by learners of low levels. Then, the relevant theoretical elaborations were put forward in this thesis.
