With the emergence of globalization and the internet, the interpersonal exchange has expanded beyond the local community and as never before a second language is becoming an indispensable tool for efficient, cross-cultural communication. Second language acquisition (SLA) research began to be recognized as an independent discipline during the 1970s, SLA is a study of second and foreign language learning in the naturalistic and classroom setting, with a focus on the underlying competence of second language (L2) knowledge through their performance that shows their knowledge of L2 rules. SLA helps teachers understand the learning process better. The choice of teaching strategies is determined by clear understanding of learning. In order to improve the quality of teaching and learning, nowadays, teachers and researchers have created the Web-based English teaching (WBET) environment to facilitate L2 learners to master L2 better. Web-based English teaching and learning in China has been developing very fast. However, we may notice that in former studies we fail to find the current systematic investigations of the learning results of WBET among teachers and students, especially of the fact that teachers and researchers apply much more theories of SLA and Constructivism theory to English teaching activities. So this dissertation will deal with the study of SLA and WBET in order to conduct a systematic and complete survey to investigate the current use of the Internet among teachers and students so as to develop WBET.This paper mainly deals with the analysis on the role of the application of SLA theories in WBET environment; especially Krashen's input theory and Swain's output theory. The author decides to do the critical research both in terms of the SLA and WBET research fields. Then, the author focuses on how to use SLA theories to guide SLA under WBET environment. For this aim, the author develops her own hypothesis that there is certain correlation between SLA and WBET. Meanwhile, the reliability of the study and the way to analyze the correlationship is proved through quantitative and qualitative research methodology, namely, using questionnaires and interviews to collect hard data and use the tests'results data as the evidence.
