In terms of folklore, there exist some basic questions such as what folklore is, who created and spread it and where it is spread. It is no easy thing to give an exact definition to the folklore. If this question is not settled, there may appear some fallacies about discrepancies between examples and the definition for the works on the folklore. The point in this thesis is that nowadays the existing studies can't meet the requirements for some new situations about the current folklore. At present, there exist some uncertain categories about the subject system of the folklore, even exist some self-contradictory phenomena. Therefore, we should respect the previous research works and also keep the pace with the current times by questioning and innovating. Some scholars have made this importance step by finding the correct direction in revising and amending the old theories, but what they have done is not thorough enough. In that case, it is very necessary to"set up an effective road to the potential patterns of the folklore". These thesis first points out some disadvantages in some existing research studies on the folklore, then by putting the recognized patterns for the folklore into the specific historical period and situations of their appearance and development, this thesis analyzes the following questions: Who created the folklore? Who spread it? Where and in what way is the folklore spread? Who accept it? What patterns are there for its existence? What status is the folklore nowadays? We will look back to the history, analyze the present situations and look into its direction in future development. With the time as clue, based on historical facts and through concrete to abstract, we will explore the essential nature and potential development law for the folklore. This thesis maintains that the coverage for the folklore is extensive; there are various spreading ways and existing patterns of it."Folk"in the folklore has no distinction about social status. How to divide the folklore is related to the basis capabilities of people. The folklore refers to a literary pattern, which can be understood by the people of the same language region who has no special training or education, but even can imitate and involve in the cultural exchanges and communications. The same language requires that the languages have the same patterns on grammar and pronunciations and people who speak the same language have no difficulty in daily communications."Oral character"has always been considered by scholars as the essential nature for the folklore. Transmitting through mouth and ear can be considered as the basis transmitting ways for the folklore due to the fact that speaking by mouth and listening by ear are people's instincts. At present, though the oral character is still playing its role, the mongolism of transmitting through mouth and ear has been broken through, for the modern people can read as well as write and characters have become a new medium for the modern folklore. Current science and technology have brought great changes to people's life and the appearance of media time has also a great influence on the activities for the folklore. Through TV, we can appreciate such performances on the folklore such as Pingshu, crosstalk and drama. Video and audio as the media not only transmit the existing folklore works, but also bring much room for the folklore and the new patterns on it appear accordingly. We can often see the contents on the folklore in the films, TV plays and cartoons. A number of films and TV plays get rewarding results and we can find the same patterns behind their different plots, which are the modified category characters for the folklore. With the development of the times, people will increase their basis capabilities and more and more hi-tech products will appear and are used extensively, which will result in the more colorfulness for the folklore.
