Art is diversified, and it is interlinked and complementary among various categories. As an art form that perfectly combines with ceramic art and music, the ceramic musical instrument has a long history and profound cultural background and content. The practical and artistic design achieves the unification of technology, modeling, color glaze and decoration of the ceramic works. Although none of the widely used modern instruments is made of ceramic, the ceramic musical instrument plays an important role in history of music. In recent years, under the impact of modern art, the research and making of ceramic musical instruments around the world is highly developed, and enriches the connotation and epitaxy of ceramic musical instrument design. In the world of modern ceramic musical instrument, the makers focus on seeking the artistic effect and performance on the basis of achieving its music functions, to make them all unique with their own personalities. The charm of ceramic art and music makes ceramic musical instruments more elegant with artistic temperament.The four chapters in this paper respectively introduce cultural background of ceramic musical instruments, development and research situation, shape and decoration, designing and making. About the cultural background, the first chapter highlights the relationship between ceramic art and music, as well as the classification of ceramic musical instruments. The second chapter comprehensively introduces the origin and development of domestic and foreign ceramic musical instruments. On the basis of the previous two chapters, the third and forth chapters analyze and summarize the features on modeling, decorating and making experiences. At last designed and made two sets of modern ceramic musical instruments with their respective characteristics. Conclusions can be drawn through the research that although the ceramic musical instrument has experienced thousands of years, its profound cultural and artistic details cannot be replaced by any other art forms. Particularly in the field of contemporary art, integrating the elements of times, the ceramic musical instrument glows with a new art vitality, and so to guideline the develop direction of ceramic art.
