With the improvement of social and cultural environment and the updating of people's ideas, the art of watercolor tends to flourish. The artists have gradually got rid of the fixed pattern of thinking that watercolor is simple artistic creation. They begin to actively take the initiative in developing new spheres where watercolor can be expressed and meanwhile they strive to seek after forms, techniques and medium of materials to create characterised art of watercolor that can express abundant emotions and ideas. At present, many artists have made use of texture in watercolor. Many innovative works frequently appear which transfuse new blood into watercolor. There are several reasons why creative achievements can be achieved as a result of the combination of texture and watercolor. Firstly, texture is a constitutional element of form ,which has a sense of beauty in material. Secondly, the exercise of texture expands the techniques of watercolor creation. Thirdly, texture expresses people's emotions and ideas. Lastly, the exercise of texture produces a new form of art language and at the same time promote the updating of artistic conception. In a word, the potentials of texture in watercolor are being increasingly tapped. However, the misuse of texture can lead to the failure of a work. Therefore, there are some basic rules to follow as to how to make full use of texture in watercolor. This thesis aims to expound the exercise of texture in watercolor according to my own practice in combination with some certain works.
