The Opium War I is a great epoch-making event in Chinese history. The reason that the war against aggression led by Qing Regime failed is an important question that the Chinese people had always been studied since the end of the war. In recent years, some scholars are not satisfied with the past "general conclusions",They have got to study the problems on the strategies and tactics in each battle and the armed forces on both sides .They seek for the true facts of the period of the chinese history.In this paper ,we start to discuss 12 important battles of the Opium War I ,to analyse the numbers of the armed forces in every battle on both sides, to count the troops casualties on both sides, to analyse the effect of casualties on both sides further,to analyse the causes of casualties ,we can come to the due conclusions.Chapter I, To probe into the British and Qing troops casualties situation in the Opium War I. According to the three stages of the war,we should analyse the number of the solders ,the warships and artilleries of the British and Qing army in each battle , count the troops casualties on both sides. The British casualties, not only includies the casualties in the battle , but also the casualties in the non-battle.Chapter II, To analyse the impact of British army casualties. The casualties have a greater impact on the use of the British forces,the battle plans, morale and confidence of military, the military cost and so on .These conditions decreased the member of the aggressive troop ,and made the British army difficult to invade the northern part of china rapidly, and made the military cost increased.Chapter III, To reveal the impact of Qing army casualties. The disastrous casualties in Qing army on the battlefield affected the front generals and soldiers greatly. The front generals had a tendency of failure about the war.Therefore the Emperor Daoguang was affected in the making of the resistance.Eventually ,he gave up resisting against the aggressors. The Qing army failed in every battle , Many soldiers wounded ,and many died,The confidence in resisting against aggression in the Qing Regime were weakened.Chapter IV, To search for the casualties reason of the ing army. Through traditional point of view,it is thought that the undevelopment of social system and the backward of science and technology led to the casualties of the Qing army. To study the root causes , to see the essence through the phenomenon, the essence reason lies in the disablity of the Qing rulers.They didn't have good characters, and lack of scientific and cultural qualities,lack of scientific and technological qualities, we should discuss these further.We have learnt the lesson from our history. If we are backward,we will suffer a lot.China should depend on itself. We should make a summing of the casualties of Qing army and remember the lesson,to provide reference for reality .In order to build our socialism with Chinese unique characteristics, we must improve the ideological and ethical quality, scientific and cultural qualities of the people all over the country unceasingly.Only the modernized people ,who are able to make our country modernized.
