On Cultural Sources Of Naipaul's Products

Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul, (1932-), winner of Nobel Literature Prize of the year 2001, is a Trinidad India indentured laborer descendant who latter migrated to Britain. Naipaul is affected by three different cultures of Trinidad, India and Britain. After he experienced the post-colonial life in Trinidad, he sunk in mental dilemma for his academic experience in Oxford and travel home to India. Later, he recorded of all his experience affectionately.Naipaul had won many literature prizes, and been highly valued in international academic circles. People delivered comments in the Nobel Literature Prize ceremony, saying that he is "a literature world waffie" and it seemed that he should be "rootless", "Wandering", "alienate" in the world .However, this essay holds an idea that Naipaul has a general cultural and source background which is rooted on and that he had experienced in the process of growing.This essay includes three chapters. The first chapter aims to analysis Naipaul's famous book Miguel Street. It is proved that Trinidad's common people's life in Naipaul's book is described through some special immigrants and Naipaul uses the plain description of simple life and mentality of the colony people without quirky twisted plots. Readers from these marginal figures in the bitter experience of humor can appreciate the author's well-intentioned.The second chapter focuses on another of his book The Enigma of Arrival. As an Indian born in the colony Trinidad, However this deviation tortures his soul and drives him into a deep thought. For Naipaul, literature creation is his life. He'd rather shift in different worlds as a cultural traveler, and He hopes to pursuit spiritual consolation and foothold in writing.The third chapter is on Naipaul's India Trilogy. After returning to India, Naipaul down in fear and doubt examines his motherland India in an overall and thorough way. In a gradual and orderly process, he comes to understand India and then becomes sympathetic, concerned about India and at last accept it. Naipaul has a special immigration status. His values are tinge with that of the West. But his persistent spirit of pursuing cultural identity in his travel books has been sublimated.With speeding globalization and regional exchanges going deeper , more and more "immigrants" or "citizen of the world" like Naipaul will appear, so their way of thinking and cultural identification becoming hot issue of the academic circle . Naipaul reveals his attitudes toward identification of literature and spirit with his unique style of creation .Therefore, the strategy of study on Naipaul can provide us a new way to explore other writers.
