It is a difficult choice, just imitating the tradition or making innovation, that painters at any times must confront with inevitably. Zhang-yin, as the initiator of Jingjiang Painting School, made great contribution to the achievement of theory and art which had surpassed the traditional opinions and broken through the orthodox ideas, laying a solid foundation for the high status of Jingjiang Painting School in the painting world in Qing dynasty. However, the spirit impetus to create the School and the research to support the cultural background had been forgotten for a long time while we were contented to talk about the brilliant accomplishment. According to the accurate understanding about the development of literature and the relationship between region and family culture, this paper tries to restore his living conditions and creation backgrounds through two aspects—the family history and regional culture, thus exploring the culture and spirit essence behind his works on the joint of reflection between Poetry and Painting. This not only offers a completely new perspective to studying the unique phenomenon, the combination of literature and painting, but also provides a classical model to further research the literature of Region and Family.
