Ling Nan School of painting originated from the event that Meng Litang and Song Guangbao who are the famous Changzhou school printers in the late Qing dynasty were employed to teach how to print birds and flowers to Yue. Ju Chao and Ju Lian created the Lou Shan Ju School. It can be considered as the beginning of Ling Nan School. In the late Qing and early republic period, the three outstanding printers who were Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng and Chen Shuren were high on revolution cause in Ling Nan Area where was famous for its active thought. They went abroad to Japan. They learned from the Japanese painting by electing the paintings of Eastern and Western and then innovated the traditional Chinese painting. They debated with the old schools of traditional Chinese painting and built school to spread their own painting though. They advocated Art Revolution and Art Saving Nation and proclaimed New Chinese Painting or New Scholars'Painting. Its influence was extended from Pearl River basin to Yangtze River basin. Their students such as Fang Rending, Huang Shaoqiang, Guan Shanyue, Li Xiongcai, Zhao Shaoang and so on inherited their painting methods and thought and elected the early foreign factors gradually in order to make the painting richer and nationalization and then tried to find a successful way for the development of Chinese painting which was ever decadent in the late Qing dynasty.
