Researches On The Explanations Of Degree Adverbs In Modern Chinese Dictionary

The Modern Chinese Dictionary (MCD) has been recoginzed as the most canonical dictionary which gets the highest level in the academic circles. Through several revisions, the content and the style has been mature. It plays a great part in popularizing the common speech, carrying out Chinese teaching and promoting the Chinese standardalizing. The scholars have launched a multi-angle, the omni-directional research to MCD from the lable of word class, the explanation of words, the examples, information in the parentheses, the arrangement of sense terms .The paper takes the degree adverbs in the MCD as the object. In order to find certain characteristics, the author systematically inspects from the acceptance of the words, the classification, the sense division and the explanation. The author attempts to summarize the intrinsic rules of the degree adverbs in MCD, and proposes some suggestions to the revision of the MCD in the future.The paper has three parts. The first part is the introduction, outlining the study of degree adverbs and the explanations of MCD as well as describing the writing objective and significance. The second part is the body of the paper, which is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is the identification of degree adverbs. With the meaning and function, the author initially confirms the 117 degree adverbs in MCD and lists its classification. Meanwhile, the author analyzes the treatment of MCD to the disputed adverbs in the present academic circles as well as the treatment to the"quasi- degree adverbs"which is not accepted. The second chapter inspects the sense division of degree adverbs, the inner division of the degree adverbs which has several meanings. Some degree adverbs contain two close senses in one items, it is considered as one item. The author contrasts the MCD(4 edition) and analyzes the influences that the lable of word class makes on the sense division, and put forward some proposal for sense division. The third chapter centers on the explanations of degree adverbs. The author describes the patterns of the explanation in MCD which are"the synonym style","the explaining style"and"the synthetical style". Meanwhile, the author analyzes the influence that the lable of word class makes on the explanation as well as the unique characteristic of degree adverb explanations, and put forward a view about the explanations of degree adverbs. The final part is the conclusion, sums up full text articles.
