A Research On The Explanations Of Character Pattern And Denotation In Shuowenxizhuan

In the history of Shuowen research , Shuowenxizhuan is an enduring work : first to analyze and explain the interpretation of characters in Shuowen , and elucidate Xu shen's theory on character pattern and denotation . It achieved remarkable success in graphology, semantics and phonology , but Xukai is influential especially for his theory "Liushusan 'ou" and explanation about Zhishi(指事) and Zhuanzhu (转注) .This paper is a study of Tongshi (explanations of character pattern and denotation)—the key part in Shuowenxizhuan , it studies Xukai's explanation deeply . In this paper , introduction part introduced Xizhuan in detail : content and style, version and spread , and indicated the research is aimed at error correcting and supplement, bridging the gap . Main part includes three aspects : first , it investigated the analysis of character pattern in Xizhuan , using the method of statistical analyzing and contrasting research to reflect Xu kai's Liushu theory and his view about character pattern transition ; secondly , it analyzed the explanation of semantic , observed the searching for each meaning from a microcosmic angle , observed the way Xu kai collected the characters ; at last , it disserted the main content of Xu kai's viewpoint about characters in detail, evaluated Xu kai's theory about character pattern and denotation , discussed its status in the history of the study of philology .
