Influnces Of Romantic Literature On Schumann's Piano Music Creation

Since 19th centuries, with the change of social environment and many creations of new esthetics theories, the artists have committed themselves to look for most pertinent express way for their personal principles. Under this trend, the combination of different categories of art became a fashion to create work. On this influence of art, music generated unprecedented development in creation form and connotation, combining with other arts. One of the most familiar forms is the union of music and literature.Schumann was passionately fond of literature. Influenced by Romantic literature at that time, he expanded creation method of piano music. He applied to piano music the creations contents and skills of Romantic author. From many Schumann personal diary, letter and saving documents, that his new idea and skills were on the influence of Romantic literature was discovered. This paper takes this as clues, analyzing his works: "Papillons" , "the Kreislenana" , "Kinderscenen" etc. one by one, and illustrate with examples how Schumann applied the factor of literature to creation of piano work presented by music. The first chapter of the paper introduces the main characteristics of literature and music on romanticism period and the major appearance of their interpenetration; then the chapter two represents grows-up experience of Schumann and the influence of Romantic literature and music trend on his late music creation in details. Finally, from the music structure and creation technique, the paper analyzed several representative piano works of Schumann, and generalizes the characters of literature.
