Luyin was one of the modern female writers who were the first to awake after receiving the enlightening of male discourse. In her own novels, she created a series of images of the May 4 new women under the trend of times. Each heroine in Luyin's works was filled with the passion of exploring the meanings of human life, breaking the feudal tradition and seeking loving and marriage freedom. However, the huge difference between ideal and reality made them fall into a hard living situation of contradiction and depression.Starting with the special background in which "Women Liberation" was first derived from male discourse in the May 4 New Culture Movement, the present thesis explores the deep intension of depression, upset, sorrow, sadness and despair, through the experience of Luyin's own life and analyzing the inner fierce conflict of the emotion of the May 4 new women in her works in seeking personal liberation, personality independence and marriage of their own choice. The first recognition of "Women Liberation" derived from male discourse once brought Luyin temporary excitement and great enthusiasm. But through real life experience and a keen insight into the real society, Luyin was the first to doubt the fortune of women after liberation, and came to realize clearly that "Women Liberation" derived from male discourse could not be turned into reality. From extreme excitement to despair, Luyin, in her works, expressed her own profound recognition and experience towards the May 4 new women.
