The Study Of Preposition "Xiang" And Its Structure Serve For Information Processing

On the purpose of information processing, this paper studies preposition "xiang" and its structure. Based on the natural language, we study the auto-segmentation of "xiang"and preposition phrase"xiang X" in order to make some contributions to the Chinese information processing. In addition, our research will lay the foundation for the research on the semantics and pragmatics in the future. The paper is divided into four parts, including seven chapters.Part one (Chapter 0) shows the aim and meaning of this paper's theme and describes the current situation of the research on this project. Then this part introduces the theory basis and research method for the paper and explains the source of corpus we use.Part two (Chapter 1-3) first introduces the notion and feature of Chinese segmentation. Then it segments words by setting up a list of double-syllable words with "xiang" and a list of words frequency. After that, part two describes segmentation ambiguities of the double-syllable words with "xiang" ,which occurs in the corpus, and studies on rules to solve the segmentation ambiguities. Finally ,we finish a list of idioms with "xiang" in order to segment words and let the work more easier for computer processing.Part three (Chapter 4-7) tries to explore the boundary of preposition phrase (PP)" xiang X". At first ,it discusses the relationship between inner boundary word and "X" in the "xiang X" ,then describes the feature of "X". Later we analyze the feature of outer boundary word of "xiang X" . We classify the verbs on the basis of semantic features and analyze the examples of difficult sentences in detail. Then, we make a list of word class combination priority before the core-verb to change the outer boundary. At last, we show the example sentences which maybe need manual selection.Part four is the conclusion. We conclude the whole paper and point out our necessary work in the future.
