This dissertation takes the Chinese temporal phrase "Preposition +X+shi(?)" as a research object,using the "two triangles" and "subjective point of view" and other theories of the structure of the synchronic and diachronic view.The thesis is divided into five chapters, and the content of each chapter is as following:Chapter ? firstly establishes a time expression system through temporal position category and temporal quantity category, and clears the status of the temporal phrase "Preposition +X+shi(?)" in the system. Then introduces the results of previous related research.Chapter ? firstly makes a overview of the "Preposition +X+shi(?)'' from synchronic perspective such as the syntax status, semantic and pragmatic function. The syntax function of "Preposition +X+shi(?)" is more flexible, can act as adverbial, attributive, complement and object. The semantic connotation of the phrases is very rich, not only can express time, conditions, assumptions, can also event. We find that the subjective point of view on the semantic function of the phrases is determined to have a dominant roleChapter ? makes a diachronic investigation of the "Preposition +X+shi(?)".Firstly,we classify the types of the phrases according to the semantic features of the prepositions.Secondly, we make a diachronic investigation to the path of evolution of the "X" in the phrases.Chapter ? discusses the "Preposition +X+shi(?)" in Chinese dialects. We find that there are many forms of this phrases in Chinese dialects.Chapter ? is the conclusion, summarizes the main conclusions of this dissertation and shortcomings and points out that the ideas of subsequent research work.
