John Milton(December 9,1608 - November 8,1674)was an Great English poet, prose polemicist,and civil servant for the English Commonwealth.Not only was he well known for his pamphlets such as Areopagitaca,but also famous for his epic peoms including Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained.As a Puritan author who participated in English Revolution,he represnted both social transformations and reforming spirists in his publications.Generated from the Bible,Milton's masterpieces Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained are contained both intense passion for revolution and profound self-reflection about the history.Of all Milton's writings, the tensility about faith and freedom spirits have coexisted all along which helped him creat a unique view of sin.Throughout the history of western literature,the formation and development of Christainism has went along with its influnces on literature.As a type of culture,religion which had become a kind of collective unconsiousness dominats people's ways of thinking and values.The evolution of literature has represnts the religious tradition which has contemporary features.The question of sin which is the essential part of religious question should not be ignored.His masterpeices represent milton's profound thoughts on the origin of sin.His volition based on faith and courages to stand against sin and guity are worth morden people learning.I intend to conclude the types of sin showed in epics on the first part of this paper.In the second part of the paperâ… analysis the author's basic viewpoints about sin according to his epics.Further more,I try to research on the causes of Milton's thoughts of sin.In the last part,I use some of his major social activities and first hand experiences on revolution make the conclusion on my paper more convictive,reliable and complete.
