The temptation of the author is to compare Pearl S. Buck and Lao She' s works by focus on their consciousness of civilians. Readers can find comparison of their concerned literature manifestations, and reasons why they gained similar retrospective aesthetic consciousness, as well as analysis on their perspectives and attitudes of relationship between civilians and cities or land; and their literary exchange schedule. The so-called "consciousness of civilians" is an awareness that stands in the position of civilians using the people-oriented values to comment on history and world, and discusses reality and future.Pearl S. Buck and Laoshe wrote according to folk form, and researched the problem of population of light literature and art, although they do not share the same starting point, but they have both done those: First, they looked at objects equally. They did not think that they had any social status of superiority; Secondly, they gave deep sympathy to the suffering of the masses of people and their needs. The two writers understood civilians' lives with cherished attitudes. Last but not least, they both reviewed precisely those ultimate cultural,social factors that caused pitiful plights of people of that time in the altitude of surmounting history .They have created master pieces on theme of the town and rural civilians, which are the historical evidences of lives of last century ordinary people's, there is no doubt, also are epic scrolls of the social transformation, historical reform of the Chinese people.Laoshe and the Pearl S. Buck are great because they became somebody by writing about nobody. In their whole lives, they were reluctant to hide their studies, and they stayed with people together in reality and spirit worlds. Laoshe and Pearl Buck's works, are not aimed to be enshrined in any literary palaces, but to win the most extensive readers' believes and affect their behaviors.The style of the Chinese civilian in the works of Pearl S. Buck and Laoshe should bring some enlightenment to the large number of Chinese writers.
