Self-esteem is an important concept of Psychology. The studies of self-esteem may provide theoretical references for the realization of the law of human development, and also offer the educational goal of "humanism" a theoretical possibility. The author's final aim is to discuss what we should do in education according to what we know about self-esteem.At the basis of analyzing the existing definitions of self-esteem, this study elaborates that what the self-esteem is on the first. Self-esteem has been defined as follow: self-esteem expresses that you respect yourself. When you realize that you could maintain yourself, and your existing has meanings for someone, or you believe that, self-esteem might emerge.Secondly, the thesis probes into how self-esteem does develop. The fist step, the author referred to the existing theories on mechanism, and presumed the original processes. The second step, in the light of the former hypothesis, the researcher tried to divide the individual's self-esteem in his life into five stages. They were named: commensally attachment stage; self-imposed control stage; self-humiliation compensation stage; disturbance-building stage; and balance efficacy stage. Therefore, in every stage, the author described the main characters, the main development tasks and the factors which could influence the self-esteem's development course.At last, the author poses that in order to train children to form positive self-esteem, we could carry out emotional education and frustration education.
