Giacomo Puccini, the most famous Italian opera composer after Giuseppe Verdi at the end of 19 century and the beginning of 20 century, composed only 12 operas in his life, all of them are influential, though. In his works, music and opera are in harmony, perfectly combining the musical effects with dramatic effects of the operas. His operas, as for as the contents is concerned, always reflect the living conditions of the lower- class people in the society at that time and share the national rhythm and the folk rhythm musically, and they are full of exoticism and greatly exert the band's expressive forces. From an aesthetical angle, his operas are both tragical and comedic, filled with harmony and dramatical conflictions. Soprano aria takes an influential place in Puccini's operas. It is extremely important for learners of vocal music to appreciate Puccini's works by exactly singing his Soprano aria.Based on the analysis of musical characteristics of Puccini's operas, the present thesis mainly discusses the singing of Soprano aria in his operas.Thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses time and background of Puccini's operas composing aiming to lay a solid foundation for the contents of this thesis.The second chapter illustrates Puccini's composing characteristics at each stage.The third chapter focuses on the musical characteristics of his operas aiming to provide references to the singing of Soprano aria to be mainly discussed in this thesis.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the characteristics and singing skills of Puccini's Soprano aria by the aid of some relevant examples.To sum up, the thesis mainly analyzes the characteristics of Soprano aria in Puccini's operas and discusses how to improve the singing level of Soprano aria.
