Tang-Song poetry is a brilliant gem as well as an invaluable treasure of Chinese culture. Apart from its significance in our national literature, Tang-Song poetry occupies an unparalleled position in the world literature. With a variety of color images, the poets depicted a colorful world in their eyes. All the colors in Tang-Song poetry were put in good use either to depict landscapes or to express the poets' sentiment. They are so varied and graceful that they contribute a lot to the irresistible artistic beauty of Tang-Song poetry. Although in the translation circles, there are some research achievements about the translation of Tang-Song poetry, by this time, few people have undertaken scientific research on the translation of color images in Tang-Song poetry. In recent years, cultural linguistics, created by Gary B. Palmer, has taken an influential effect quickly, which adds cultural elements to the relevant studies and builds up its image-schema theory on the basis of cognitive linguistic theory. It makes further study from many perspectives of human language.Utilizing the image theory of cultural linguistics and based on the relationship of culture, language, and image, this thesis analyzes the cultural transference implicated in the color images of Tang-Song poetry in specific translation work. The thesis is developed into five parts. Part one serves as the introduction to this thesis, specifying its background, significance and structure. Part two first makes a literature review of Palmer's cultural linguistics, and then introduces some basic concepts such as image, schema and the relationship among image, language and culture. Part three expounds color images in Tang-Song poetry, making their classification and analyzing their techniques used in Tang-Song poetry. Part four makes a brief comparison of the different connotations of color images in Chinese and English, talks about the difficulties in color images transference, and then deals with the application of palmer's cultural linguistics in the color images transference in Tang-Song poetry. The last part comes to the conclusion of the whole thesis, summarizing the major findings, pointing out the limitations and putting forward the major measures for further study.
