Shih-shuo hsin-yu mainly describes the anecdotes, demeanors and behaviour of the intellectuals and the custom in Wei-Jin dynasties; and under the background of metaphysics and of Confucianism, Buddhism and metaphysics mixing with each other, the whole text shows the transformation of age that from"ethic"to"nature", society to individual and political ethics to art aesthetics. Shih-shuo hsin-yu, as the combination of human philosophy and art aesthetics in Wei-Jin dynasties, was formed by such factors as specific social background, intellectuals'attitude and philosophy trend, in which the special spirit of character and aesthetics temperament showed have deep influence to the later ages. From the angle of the prevailing aesthetics custom of intellectuals in Wei-Jin dynasties, this paper researches Shih-shuo hsin-yu deeply and comprehensively, and systematically investigates and arranges the changes of aesthetics custom and aesthetics manifestation of intellectuals in that dynasties. The paper can be put into three parts:The first chapter is to discuss the specific text and philosophy basis of the prevailing aesthetics custom of intellectuals in Wei-Jin dynasties through researching the rising of intellectuals'stage, influence of society and politics and appearance of metaphysics.As the dominant social stage and community, intellectuals'life philosophy, ideas of value, life style, aesthetic customs and so on directly determined the development and trend of prevailing aesthetics custom in this period. Metaphysics is a philosophy which brewed in the end of Han dynasty, produced and flourished in Wei-Jin dynasties and is a popular philosophical idea and value system, which do not only pursue direct satisfaction of knowledge, integration of morality, delight of material wealth and external success, but exceeding and freedom of internal personality, life and character. Just on this sense, metaphysics of this period walked into aesthetics and became a part of Chinese traditional aesthetics. The second chapter is to discuss the changes of aesthetics custom of intellectuals in Wei-Jin dynasties, which is composed of three parts: from emphasizing ethics to emphasizing oneself, from advocating achievements to pursuing comfortable life and from looking forward to nature to being in harmony with nature. Review the development of Chinese traditional aesthetics, and people in every period have different aesthetic ideas. The formation of aesthetic ideas inherits history and also has new exploration and development. In Chinese history, Wei-Jin dynasty is a very special period, in which politics was the most dark and full of blood and suffering. Social politics and economic pattern had large change which made culture and thought had deep and wide change and also changed spirit life and value ideas of intellectuals which form a new aesthetic custom. We can say that the aim of thought and cultural custom of Wei-Jin period are tend to aimless, super-utilitarian and free-creative, which are aesthetic.The third chapter is to analyze the achievements intellectuals got on aesthetics custom systematically from the beauty of graceful bearing and the beauty of magical charm Shih-shuo hsin-yu shows a different and colorful aesthetic pattern which most stress intellectuals'aesthetic appreciation. Wei-Jin intellectuals were influenced by evaluation and appearance, so they not only upheld beauty of internal spirit, but also emphasized beauty of external appearance. People's spirit, charm and temperament are external manifestation which can be showed as intelligent, comprehensive and as the charm of appearance and behavior, and as a special beauty of personality.
