A Study On Chiung Yao's Novels From Feminist Perspective

Chiung Yao, as a popular female writer, is a romantic novelist who has influenced a few generations in China. For half of century she has been persisting in writing and reflecting the life, human relationship and traditional ethics of the Chinese; advocating the humanism of mercy and caritas, and constructing ideal life world based on love ; pursuing the health, happy, upright characters of humane care and the artistic effect of the common appreciation of elegance and popularity.Up to now Chiung Yao's writings have brought continuous controversy and criticism in the mainland and Taiwan, It's the responsibility of feminist criticism to reveal the feminist significance of Chiung Yao's works from feminist perspective.The consciousness of anti-patriarchy in Chiung Yao's novels is expressed by two aspects. Her novels display the vice of the feudal patriarchal ethics by shaping the image of patriarchal hegemony and reproduce the devastation imposed to women by the feudal patriarchal ethics. Meanwhile the novels demonstrate the hidden awareness of male authority in modern society and the tragedies caused by it.Meanwhile the women's subjectivity is advocated in Chiung Yao's novels which clearly create two types of female images including the classic rebellious women and the modern independent strong women to convey in great efforts the superiority of women and the subjective value of women as the savers of the defective men.Chiung Yao's novels draw the ideal images of men and women to show the androgyny poetics, and fuerthermore express the thought of bisexual harmony that the equality of personality, romantic love and the fellowship is the basic fundamental,powerful assurance and perfect format of bisexual harmony.Chiung Yao's novels construct triple female discourses : Emphasizing the feeling factors of the family, caring for life and human nature, advocating the philosophy and salvation of love, which all regarded as the coordinating principles of her total creations and so express the moral appeals to the family, the society and the humankind by a different voice.Only from the deep appreciation of Chiung Yao's works can we explore the female awareness and the consciousness beyond sex and also more fully understand the ever-lasting charm of her works.
