The thesis systematically analyzes the change from the former Three Brothers of Qin Family to Teahouse from perspectives of the external historical context and subjective cultural condition, aiming to represent the author's complicated but real inner world at that time. Then through the careful analysis of the play, the thesis tries to explore its profound meaning contained in the theme, unscramble the play's aesthetic value, find the reason for its exceeding times and people, and opens out its referential significance to Chinese mainland literature writing. The primary content is as follows:The introduction provides a general review of the achievement of Teahouse and the present study background, points out the significance of the study.Chapter one analyzes Laoshe's complicated inner world set in the special cultural context at 1950s. As a common citizen, he appreciates the Communist Party for their action to change the poor people's fate after his dignity is recognized and he becomes eager for writing. Driven by his responsibility as a cultural official, Laoshe spares no efforts to keep writing. He has never fallen behind the times. Such rising passioncontinues all along until the former Teahouse------Three Brothers of Qin Family, comes into being. For several decades after Teahouse's publication, "put an end to the old times" and "pay a tribute to the new times" are among the popular themes and they are just based on the production. In chapter two readers can see Laoshe's sense of writer began to waken after his ruminating on his unsuccessful works. Further more, the sense becomes dominant and Laoshe went back to writing during the period guided by the principle of "let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thoughts strive". During the course of inditing and amending, Laoshe always sticks to his art standpoint and succeeds in combining his life with writing experience. Consequently the multiple meaning concerning the theme will be unavoidable.Chapter three, through an intensive analysis of the text, makes clear the fact that Teahouse describes the withering process of the civilian public space and civilian culture during the so-called modernization of politics and culture. Through the transitionary course of the public space, the play conveys the real existing state of the civilian. Besides the ideological history, the play shows another history of substance, showing the contradiction between history and reality, by which Laoshe who comes from the rock-bottom society represents his identity as a spokesman of the civilian society.Based on the careful analysis of the text, Chapter four specifies that Teahouse, starting with the description of daily life of characters, through the depiction of the absurd world made up by feudalism autarchy and benefit and the character's useless struggle, reveals the existence tragedy in China. Conclusion summarizes the whole thesis and indicates that great works root in great author's thought.
