Despite having taken unique and pervasive effect on English teaching, some of the English teaching methods being explored and studied for ages have been disfavored in the wake of the further scientific development in terms of psychology, philosophy, and linguistics. By the reason of the fact that college English teaching in class could hardly involve the passion, autonomy and innovation spirits of students, the teaching effect has not been exerted to the full. So there are still some advanced areas for us to explore.Problem-based teaching method to be discussed in this dissertation is actually novel in English teaching fulfillment. Taking consideration of student's humanistic needs and essential educational requirements especially in college, the author would expound the Problem-based teaching method by an experimental class design. Firstly, the author will analyze the significance of studying the problem-based teaching method in terms of social requirement, essence of education and English learning status quo. Secondly, the main contributive educational thoughts and theories will be expounded in succession from the historical probing home and abroad to students'motivational investigation. Thirdly, the PBT will be elaborated from the perspective of modeling of the actual class with principles, features, considerations, suggested modeling and overall assessments.Problem-based teaching method inspires students and would be popular with them. However, this teaching method is expected to be practiced as much as possible for the sake of overcoming the operational obstacles.
