With the development of society, the various weaknesses of modern civilization are gradually revealed, the issues of human' s fate and civilization have increasingly become the focus of people's attention. In the reflection on these issues, we find that the two most radical criticisms of modern civilization come from Nietzsche and Rousseau. Nietzsche and Rousseau, as two very similar thinkers in temperament , are the critics and rebels in their own age. Under their respective time conditions both of them gave precaution and criticism to the process of modern civilization and direction of human development , and put forward their views in this regard, gave their own solutions. Through a lot of reading and material collection, I think their views of modern civilization mainly lie in the following areas - language concept, social history, moral religion, concept of art and science. After the interpretation and comparison on Nietzsche and Rousseau' s related ideas, I think that regardless of Nietzsche or Rousseau, their criticism of modern civilization are undoutedly very profound, but the Solution put forward by them, or a way out is not workable in reality. They both have inherent contradictions and shortcomings. For the fate and the direction of civilization, people should still maintain a cautious attitude.
