Humanity is facing an unprecedented ecological crisis. Our survival is seriously threatened and our environment is becoming more and more harsh. In addition the expanding population and fewer and fewer natural resources ,all of these make us have to worry about our future。While the industrial revolution makes huge victory in it's early stage and science and rationalism sweep away all obstacles , there are some thinkers have foresighted this corrupt pritice and condemned all these conducts of violating the law of nature. Jean-Jacques Rousseau is one of the representatives. In all his works there is a theme, that is the concept of the ecological literature. Rousseau's idea has important theoretical and practical significance in today's world when we are facing so serious ecological crisis.The times of Rousseau's Living,specific life experiences and his thought trait forged his ecological awareness. And the thirst for nature and the pursuit of freedom run through all his life. Nature is his heart and the soul of his thought. While other thinkers of the Enlightenment place their hope on the science and technology and want to make it promote social progress, Rousseau has realized its blindness about technology abuse and the consequences of natural damage caused by this conduct. Because his acute insight and far-reaching ,Rousseau makes a profound expose about the drawbacks of industrial civilization, namely the destruction of the original harmony between people and nature, as well as the alienation of people's inherent nature caused by these drawbacks. At the same time in order to shake off the plight of civilization, reforming and reconstructing human civilization which in harmony with nature ,Rousseau put forward the idea of returning back to nature and the idea of returning back to people's natural instincts. He thinks social contract and moral education are the way helping people returning to nature. And it's also the way that the healthy survival of human's requiring. The civilization critique of Rousseau's have had a far-reaching effects on the Romantic ideas which happened in the end of the 18th century and early stage of the 19th century ,and it also influenced Kant's philosophy , Marx's alienation theory, and the theories of modern Western civilization. Rousseau's civilization idea contains many profound thinking, such as the pondering over the relationship between man and nature, concerning about the survival of mankind, the direction of human society development, as well as the query about the concept of mankind progress, all of these still making huge and important modern sense.
