The Investigation And Research Of Lanzhou Taiping Drum

Lanzhou Taiping Drum, a kind of drum ox-skin membranes stretched over its ends and iron rings attached of its handle, beaten with a long thin drumstick, is a traditional folk art which is spread far and widely at the rural areas of Lanzhou City. It has developed into a folk art form which has a unique West China style over hundreds years. Recent years, there has been a heated topic in general public, but so far there is no systematic research on Lanzhou Taiping Drum. Nowadays, the most of studies on it is just the fragmentary description. The deep research based on the practical investigation theoretical analysis has not been done yet.The place of the investigation is chosen in Shuifu Town, Gaolan County in Lanzhou. The author makes the comprehensive research from several aspects, such as characteristic of formation; costumes for performance; actions of performance; ranks of performance; impartment and development; etc.. What's more, cultural connation was explored from culture of agriculture and aspect of witchcraft. The research is of great importance to both its development and conservation of nonmaterial cultural heritage in Gansu Province.
