Post-colonial theory is a kind of aggregative discourse with multiplex cultural and political features as well as critical methods. It echoes with the sound of post-modernism to deconstruct center and power. The theory is one of the hottest topics discussed in literary fields in China for more than the past ten years. In the processes of these literary discussions, a great amount of key words has been introduced from west. The intercommunion between different languages mainly represents as the translating practice. The realization of translation chiefly depends on the contact, negotiation and understanding between different cultures. The meanings of these key words are not so much 'transformed' when concepts pass from one language to another as invented within the local environment of the latter. This paper mainly discusses the traveling process of five key words. In the traveling processes or in the process of adaptation, translation, introduction and domestication of the key words, all of them experienced the process of cultural negotiation and cultural conversation and this kind of process represents as the loss, gain and even changes and transformation of the meaning of the words in the initial cultural backgrounds. According to such kind of interpretation, the meaning of every key word is not defined by the western theory but traveling and gaining new meanings among different cultural atmosphere. The key words adapt, change and mutate into a new hybrid form which is neither Western nor Chinese. Therefore, the meaning of every key word is ill-defined in Chinese context. The translation process of every key word is controlled by Chinese intelligence. According to the necessaries of the specific social or historical or even personal interests, they focused on the hegemony and resistance between the East and West or they paied special heed to wiping out the western-centered consciousness or sometimes even stressed the western-centered consciousness unconsciously. Therefore, close reading, textual analysis, method of archaeology knowledge and method of lexical politic as well as traveling theory are applied as the main methods throughout. The conclusion of this paper is that generally speaking, Chinese scholars' attitude toward cultural contact is a complex emotion of acceptance, resistance, appropriation and domination and specifically speaking, the different translation and interpretation of every key word is closely related to the social, political and cultural development at that time. This thesis adopts the following organization in its main body:The first chapter severs as introduction, briefly introducing the present study achievements which collected with this project and illustrates the methodology and the purpose of this thesis. From Chapter Two to Chapter Six, this thesis is devoted to case study on the translatology of every key word. The following questions are studied clear in these chapters. Firstly, what's the original context and material of every key word? Then, the translation of the key words connected with two languages, and then what happens when these five key words 'traveling' between two different cultures, among different contexts and in various people's ideas? Finally, how should we response to such kind of changes and how to deal with such kind of phenomena?Chapter Seven servers as the conclusion section of this thesis. It makes a summary of the main contents of this paper and also points out the limitations, and then mentions some problems related with this topic which can be further discussed. Therefore, from the perspective of comparative literature, this thesis makes a micro-study on traveling process of five key words in post-colonial theory. It shows that such kind of translingual practice is the reflection of cultural contact and negotiation. The study of the traveling process between west and east of the key words not only belongs to the translatology study but also belongs to the comparative study. Through the study of the traveling process of key words, Chinese scholars should rethink the construction of our own literary theory.
