The Study On Pipa Fingering Notation System

Fingering notation of Chinese pipa has developed for nearly one thousand years. Along with the evolvement of notation and technique, the fingering notation system has been mature gradually. Only when fingernails (real of false) playing became the mainstream of performance method in Chinese pipa, has the fingering notation system obtained its unprecedented development. After the abbreviated character notation is replaced by the fingering tablature commonly used in modern times, the development of performance technique and the improvement of the instrument not only greatly prompt the composition of new works, but offer significant and essential conditions that the fingering notation system gains its perfection. By arranging the history of fingering notation system, this paper makes comparative analysis of the tablature and notation system available, and then makes further efforts to raise its own proposal. Mainly consulting the multisystem of current fingering notation, and emphasizing on the extant problems in application, this paper affords the practicable theory basis for the formulation of a standard notation system.
