The Influence Of Appearance Perfectionism On The Attempt To Change Body: The Mediation Effect Of Body Satisfaction

In order to study the influence of appearance perfectionism on the attempt to change body, and the mediation effect of body satisfaction, and to explore the path diagram under the context of success and failure. 362 university students were investigated by Appearance Perfectionism Scale, Body Satisfaction Scale and Attempt to Change Body Scale, the statistic method is path analysis. Appearance Perfectionism Scale contains two subscales: Hope perfection and Worry about imperfect, Body Satisfaction Scale contains Appearance Satisfaction and Stature Satisfaction subscales, Attempt to Change Body Scale contains Appearance Management and Stature Management subscales.The results are:1)The path diagrams of boys and girls are similar to the whole students' diagram, but the path coefficients are different. Worry about imperfect predicted appearance management attempt directly, and it also had indirect effect on appearance management attempt through Appearance Satisfaction. Worry about imperfect predicted stature management attempt directly, and it also had indirect effect on stature management attempt through Stature Satisfaction.2) In failure scenario, Worry about imperfect predicted appearance management attempt directly, and it also had indirect effect on appearance management attempt through Appearance Satisfaction and Stature Satisfaction, Worry about imperfect predicted stature management attempt indirectly through Stature Satisfaction. As for the boys, worry about imperfect predicted appearance management and stature management attempt indirectly through stature satisfaction. As for the girls, worry about imperfect predicted appearance management attempt indirectly through appearance satisfaction.3) In success scenario, Body Satisfaction had no mediation effect between appearance perfectionism and attempt to change body.
