English writing teaching has always been a difficult point in the process of English teaching. Things become harder in case of vocational and technical college students (VTCS) with weak English foundation. Currently, there exists big problem about their English writing. They are afraid of writing. Once writing a composition, it turned out to be numerous wrong words and sentences. How depressed it is for a teacher to confront so much mistakes in a writing text of less than 100 words. So he or she may not know how to correct it. In this way, the most urgent problems to solve are how to treat these mistakes, guide college students to analyze ,correct and lessen mistakes , improve English writing level.This thesis, with the theories of Error Analysis(EA), Contrastive Analysis(CA), as its theoretical guidance, analyzes the errors committed by vocational and technical college students(VTCS) in the author's college. A careful survey is conducted of the errors made by VTCS . Then efforts are made to find all the sources of errors. This thesis try to generalize and analyze the common errors in VTCS writing, guide students properly to correct the mistakes by themselves, improve their writing interests and their English writing ability .The analysis shows that interlingual and intralingual errors and cultural interference errors are three major types , with interlingual error(serrors caused by VTCS mother language transfer) playing a more prominent role than intralingual errors, in terms of linguistic transfer, cultural transfer, and so on. According to the analysis and discussion, the teachers'correct attitude to VTCS'errors in English writing and relevant error correction methods and pedagogical suggestions are put forward. On one hand VTC English teachers can know how much the learners write in English , find out some learning strategies uses by VTCS and learning difficulties in common. On the other hand they are helpful to correct and lessen errors created by VTCS in English writing and to increase the writing ability of the learners.
