The research on the style of Ji Kang's poems and essays is always the weak link in Chinese ancient literature. On the basis of the predecessors' research, I try my best to make a comment on the style of Ji Kang's writings by applying an artistic aesthetic method, besides, I will take a thorough inquiry into the cause of it under the new angle of view.From an artistic aesthetic point of view, the style of Ji Kang's poems and essays can be summarized four characteristics: vigorous, magnificent, concise and light. Seen from an aesthetic category, vigor and magnificence belong to lofty one, while concision and lightness are parts of graceful one.There are great state, clear words and intense sentiments in Ji Kang's poems and essays. This is the text appearance of vigorous style. As equally belongs to lofty aesthetic category, magnificent style also made an outstanding presentation. It presented a kind of transcendent mind, real knowledge and deep insight. That is to say, Ji Kang's writings could be pertinent to the subject and the key to the matter could be stressed. Besides, Ji Kang had a perfect command of materials with profound and clear thought, so the layout was prudent and the argument was logical.While expressing his lofty sentiments and aspirations, Ji Kang also gave a vivid description of nature, feelings of his family members and friendship. All that made his writings showed another style, concision and lightness. As far as the concision of Ji Kang's writings, it presented concise form, distinct image and substantial intension. As for the lightness of style, it is a common one, which is pure, fresh and natural, including simple contents, retired state and peaceful delight. All in all, beautiful nature scenery, exquisite soul feelings and profound and lasting poetry state formed the style of lightness of Ji Kang's writings.There are many kinds of causes of formation in Ji Kang's poems and essays. As to me, I'd like to put great emphasis on two aspects. One is the trend of thought in society, namely, metaphysics. Another is cultural character, which formed in his special environment.Metaphysics attached importance to metaphysical explanation and soul comprehension, therefore it is mysterious and subtle. As a great philosopher on metaphysics, Ji Kang applied the enlightenments and hints of words fully to evoke the association of readers and let them learn from the profound and lasting delight beyond "between the lines". As a result, his writings showed the style of concision. In addition, metaphysics sought a kind of light flavor, which was a reflection of metaphysical scholars in ideology, ways of conducting themselves in society and association. Accordingly, it made writings present the style of lightness.The thought of basis of metaphysics is Lao Zhuang and Ji Kang inherited from Zhuang Zi primarily. Based on the criticism of dark reality, the thought of Zhuang Zi is to seek individual personality and get spirit liberty. Influenced by the thought greatly, Ji Kang realized it and put it into practice in life and showed it in his works. That is, he was free from all inhibitions and attacked all the false bravely, seeking the meaning of life value in returning to nature and his works showed the style of vigor and magnificence consequently.Seen from the theory on character, Ji Kang's character was part of the ideal one, which had transcendent and aesthetic characteristics. This one affected his works profoundly. Above all , his transcendent characteristics was concentrated on confronting bravely the false and brutal men those who were in power and the highest rulers. Afterwards, his transcendent characteristics was the presentation of disdaining and hating high position and great wealth and handsome salaries. Furthermore, to villains, he gave expression to his indignation and scorn. Finally, his transcendent characteristics was selecting Chinese classical poem with lines of four characters each. Moreover , Ji Kang persistently sought beauty and showed great aesthetic characteristics. As a result, there was an intense sense of beauty in his poems and essays, and all that was related to his aesthetic character.Ji Kang was of the most striking individuality writer during the Wei Jin era. In short, his spirit manner, thought depth and character charm, together with their presentations brought about the latter generations much revelation. Meanwhile, Ji Kang became an object which was praised by many scholars, especially those who were expert in thinking in the same times and the latter ages.
