Language is the most essential tool for human communication and also one of the decisive factors which distinguish human beings from other animals. It is language that makes human communication more convenient and more efficient. There are considerable barriers inherently accompanying so many languages for cross-cultural communication. People all over the world have been looking forward to the coming of "the Ultimate One Global Language" for a very long time in view of cross-cultural communication.Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Spanish, French and English were ever used as international languages. However, the statuses of these languages have been changing with the development of human history. Now, what is the future of human languages? Professor Gan Shi-an brought forward Hypothesis on Oneness into Which All Human Languages Will Merge. Is his hypothesis scientific? Is it possible for the birth of the Ultimate One Global Language in future? On the other hand, English has developed into the most important international language in the globalization era. Now English is applied in almost every field and in every corner of the world, and no language can compare with its wide-spread in human history. Now, what is the future of the English language? Will the language develop into "the Ultimate One Global Language"? If it will, what are the characteristics of the future English? This thesis, firstly, mainly adopting documentary studies, focuses on such international languages as Greek, Latin, French and English, to explore various factors which cause the change of language status; and then attempts to induce the common factors that promote the birth of a lingua franca. Secondly, the thesis, according to the common factors for the birth of lingua franca, analyzes why and how English became the global language, examines its present global status, and predicts that English will be the most possible prototype of "the Ultimate One Global Language". Lastly, the thesis adopts diachronic and synchronic linguistic approaches, in the light of the fundamental laws of language evolution, to describe tentatively the essential features and principles of the UOGL.
