Academic exchanges between China and other countries around the world are becoming more frequent in today's era.The language of academic text is more rigorous while academic translation focuses on its systemic, theoretical, and logical characteristics. Therefore,it is especially important for translators to translate foreign academic texts accurately and appropriately. This article is a translation report on academic texts.Guided by Relevance Translation Theory, the author selects the fifth and ninth chapters of the book Global Interactions in English as a Lingua Franca for English-Chinese translation. In order to complete the translation task well, the author first studied the book to understand the main framework and content, then read a lot of literature mainly on three aspects which are English lingua franca,Relevance Translation Theory, and academic text translation. All of these preparations helped the author deepen the understanding of related fields. In this report, the author has identified related concepts such as ostensive process, inferential process, relevance, and optimal relevance, and gotten the conclusion about the revelation brought by Relevance Translation Theory to translators, which are acquiring cognitive context, looking for and transferring the optimal relevance, and stressing contextual effect. In view of the different translation problems that appeared in practice, the author adopted different translation strategies according to the enlightenment, such as amplification, omission, abstraction and concrete, conversion and so on.Through this translation task, the author could analyze and solve the problem from the perspective of the theory when dealing with practical problems, and have a deeper understanding of Relevance Translation Theory by constantly summing up experiences. In addition, the author also hopes that this practice could provide a reference for translators to translate academic texts from the perspective of Relevance Translation Theory.
